Is Quickbooks Self Employed Worth It?

Feb 26, 2017 | Resources | 0 comments

As an entrepreneur myself for the past 10 years, plus some accounting courses in college, I’ve grown to love Quickbooks. To be honest with you, I never really cared for Quickbooks until about 2 years ago when they did a huge rebrand and redevelopment of their software.

There are a ton of options when it comes to accounting software, including Freshbooks and Quicken. I’ll be as transparent as possible in my Quickbooks Self Employed Review here.

Quickbooks self employed vs online

If you’ve already been working with an accounting software, you’ll know quickly that they can be overwhelming. Quickbooks Self Employed is pretty much a simplified version of Quickbooks online, with a very precise focus on small business and sole props.

As a self-employed individual, if you’re anything like me, you probably mix your business and personal transactions. Technically, as a sole proprietor, you ARE your business, yet this can make things a little bit tricky when it comes to tax time.

Link your bank account and go

Really, it is that simple. I use Wells Fargo for my business banking and Paypal for processing online payments. All you need to do is connect your bank account to QuickBooks Self Employed and it will import every transaction for you, all you have to do is set the transaction as “business” or “personal” and it does the rest. It knows what expenses go into which categories for your “Schedule C” form for your taxes!
